A Day in Talkeetna

The team met at The Roadhouse this morning for breakfast. Wes says that everything is big in Alaska including the breakfasts. They are so big that you only want to get a half-order and that still came with a mountain of breakfast potatoes. He also ate reindeer sausage for the first time which he said was delicious! After breakfast the team headed over to the Hudson aircraft hangar. This is the company that will be flying them to base camp tomorrow. The team went through all their gear. At this time Wes has a total of 70 pounds (backpack and sled) to carry. This is much lighter than what he carried last year. He thinks he may get about 30 more pounds of community gear to carry. At 11:00 a.m. everyone went to the ranger station to check in and enjoyed an hour presentation about the mountain. After the presentation they headed back to Hudson to repack all their gear. It was about 48 degrees and partly cloudy in Talkeetna today. Wes is planning on taking it easy the rest of the evening. The plan for tomorrow is to meet at The Roadhouse at 8:00 a.m. and have breakfast. After breakfast they will head over to the hangar by 9:00 a.m. The crew at Hudson hope to start flying the team to base camp between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. The ranger mentioned that there may be a weak storm system moving in tomorrow but hopefully they will still be able to fly out.
